Certain adware, such as WebSearcher, will inject javascript into web sites you are visiting so that the site's content is overlaid by advertisements. These advertiments will be labeled Trending Articles or Sponsored by RevContent and the adware will show them regardless of whether the page would normally display them.
It is important to note that Revcontent is not adware, malicious, or a computer infection and that there are many sites that purposely utilize their service. If you are using a site that you know does not display these types of ads and suddenly see them, then you may be affected by one of these types of adware.
Why am I seeing RevContent Ads on my computer?

As already stated, RevContent is a legitimate advertising service that website publishers use to generate revenue on their sites. Unfortunately, there are some adware programs that are injecting these ads onto web sites you visit without the permission of the publisher in order to generate revenue. These adware programs are bundled with and installed by free programs that did not adequately disclose that other software would be installed along with it.
Therefore, it is important that you pay close attention to license agreements and installation screens when installing anything off of the Internet. If an installation screen offers youÂ*CustomÂ*orÂ*AdvancedÂ*installation options, it is a good idea to select these as they will typically disclose what other 3rd party software will also be installed. Furthermore, If the license agreement or installation screens state that they are going to install a toolbar or other unwanted adware, it is advised that you immediately cancel the install and not use the free software.
If you see RevContent ads on sites that normally do not show them, then you are may be affected by an adware and should scan your computer for unwanted programs. To test if a site normally running RevContent or not, you can view the site from another machine or your smart phone and if the ads do not appear, then you should be safe and perform a scan of your computer. To scan for unwanted programs, you can use this guide to remove it and any other related programs for free.
