The XTab program is a tool that is commonly bundled with browser hijackers that prevents you from changing your home page or search provider back to one of your choice. When a browser hijacker is installed on your computer their goal is to make it so you are unable to switch your home page or search engine and are stuck with the site that is hijacking you. In order to help with this, they have created programs like XTab or SearchProtect which run in the background and detect and not allow any settings changes. It is important to note that even though the program is currently installed as XTab, the interface itself will be called SearchProtect.
