  • Idle Crawler and Runner.exe Removal Guide

Idle Crawler is a portentially unwanted program, or PUP, that is commonly bundled with other downloads. When installed, Idle Crawler does not create any Start Menu shortcuts or Desktop icons. In fact, the only way you would know it's installed is that you may find it listed in the Uninstall Programs control panel. What you may notice, though, is that your computer's CPU is at 100%, your hard drive is constantly being accessed, and your computer and Internet connectivity appear to be slower. This is because in the background, there is a process called Runner.exe that is constantly launching instances of its bundled Chromium browser to access web sites. The Chromium processes that are launched will be either named Chrome.exe or Navigate.exe. The purpose of all these web requests is unknown, but the byproduct of all these requests is your computer is running slower than it should be. It is important to note that the Chrome program bundled with Idle Crawler is a legitimate program and not malware or a PUP.
