Windows PC Backup Wizard is a Potentially Unwanted Program, or PUP, that promotes itself as a backup software and is commonly installed by free programs that are downloaded off of the Internet. For all I know this backup service may be a good product, but in my opinion how they try to convince you to use the product leaves something to be desired.
When PC Backup Wizard is installed, a scheduled task will be created that displays an alert every 10 minutes. This alert is titled Critical Alert and then prompts you to "Activate Windows Backup Now!". An example of this alert can be shown below.
If the user clicks on the OK button, the program will then open up a registration screen that stays on top of any program that is currently open. It also does not provide a way close this registration screen unless you register for the program or terminate the process using task manager. I feel that an alert using the word critical and then a screen that many people will have no idea how to close is a big problem for many users. It may cause them to feel that their computer has a critical problem and then when they are shown the registration screen, they are forced to sign up in order to close it. It is for these reasons that we feel Windows PC Backup Wizard should be uninstalled from a computer.
It is important to note that PC Backup Wizard is is installed by free programs that you download from the Internet, which did not adequately disclose that other software would be installed along with it. Therefore, it is important that you pay close attention to license agreements and installation screens when installing anything off of the Internet. If an installation screen offers you Custom or Advanced installation options, it is a good idea to select these as they will typically disclose what other 3rd party software will also be installed. Furthermore, If the license agreement or installation screens state that they are going to install a toolbar or other unwanted adware, it is advised that you immediately cancel the install and not use the free software.
As you can see, the tactics used by Windows PC Backup Wizard to convince you to register their product do not paint a good picture of this program. Due to this we suggest that you use this guide to remove PC Backup Wizard and any other related software from your computer.
