The InstantSupport program from the Rogue.Tech-Support family that displays contact information for a remote support company and displays errors from your Windows event log to make you think your computer has a problem. This program is typically bundled with other software that you can download for free from the Internet. Once installed, InstantSupport will automatically start when you login to Windows and constantly display a button labeled InstantSupport on the title bar of the active Window. If you click on this button, you will be shown a screen that promotes a remote tech support company and displays their phone number, which is currently 866-818-5310.

When you click on the InstantSupport alert, a Window will open that displays a message offering remote tech support services and a number that can be used to reach them. The text of this alert is:
    INSTANTSUPPORT
    Instant Computer Assistance
    866-818-5310
Our Microsoft trained technicians are standing by ready to help you resolve all your PC issues and more.

Instant Support will also display an alert from the Windows taskbar that displays the last error from the Windows Event Logs. This is designed to scare you into thinking something is wrong with the computer so that you will call the remote support number.
How did InstantSupport get on my computer?

It is important to note that even though some may find this program to be misleading, it is not an actual computer infection that is installed through exploits or malware. Rather this program is installed by other programs that did not adequately disclose that other software would be installed along with it. Therefore, it is important that you pay attention to the license agreements and installation screens when installing anything off of the Internet. If an installation screen offers you Custom or Advanced installation options, it is a good idea to select these as they will typically disclose what other 3rd party software will also be installed. Furthermore, If the license agreement or installation screens state that they are going to install a toolbar or other unwanted adware, it is advised that you cancel the install and not use the free software.
From my experience testing this program, it was designed to make you concerned that there is something wrong with your computer so that you will then call the remote tech support number. As the messages in your event log are not serious, you can ignore these alerts. If you are affected by InstantSupport, you can use this guide to remove all remnants of the program and other related adware.
