CryptoLocker, a new and nasty piece of malicious software!

Rate this Entry
To all of our customers:

There is a new virus that is beginning to spread across the web. The ransom-ware is called Crypto-locker. The malware infects your machine by clicking on a link in either email or some type of correspondence. We have seen them come through as a package tracking number among others. Once the software is installed, it will encrypt all of the files on your hard drive rendering them useless until you pay the “ransom” for the key. We are seeing costs between $300-$500 so far in ransom. Once your system is infected, there really isn’t a way to remove it other than to pay the ransom, or erase the machine.

If we currently do not handle your backup, then we suggest you meet with your vendor or discuss a backup solution with us. This spyware is known to spread across network shares so once it infects one machine it may vary well infect more.

(THIS VIRUS WILL PERMANENTLY ENCRYPT ALL YOUR DOCUMENTS, PHOTOS, DATABASES, SPREADSHEETS, WORD FILES, AND MUSIC)
