If searches from Chrome or the new tab is using Searchprotector.net, then you may have an unwanted chrome extension installed on your computer. This domain has been found being using by Chrome extension as a search redirect and the page displayed when a user opens a new tab. When using this page to perform a search, it just redirects you to Yahoo.com, which displays the search results. Due to this, you are better off just using Yahoo directly rather than adding an extra search request to some unknown entity.
