The Product updater system service is a potentially unwanted program that is installed alongside free software that you download from the Internet. When installed, this program will configure itself to automatically start when you login to Windows. Once running, it will run in the background and without your knowledge constantly connect to various sites on the Internet.
When installed, you may notice the following symptoms:
    • Your computer may run slow.
    • Your computer's CPU utilization may be higher than normal.
    • You will find a process monhost.exe and produpd.exe processes running in Task Manager that use a large amount of CPU power.
    • Applications and Windows may freeze.
    • Your Internet may become slower.

How did Product Updater System Service get on my computer?

It is important to note that this program is installed by other programs that did not adequately disclose that other software would be installed along with it. Therefore, it is important that you pay attention to the license agreements and installation screens when installing anything off of the Internet. If an installation screen offers you Custom or Advanced installation options, it is a good idea to select these as they will typically disclose what other 3rd party software will also be installed. Furthermore, If the license agreement or installation screens state that they are going to install a toolbar or other unwanted adware, it is advised that you cancel the install and not use the free software.
From my testing, this program does nothing more than connect to sites in the background, while providing no apparent benefit to the user. Furthermore, these constant connections to sites could cause your CPU to be used more than necessary and your Internet speeds to become slower. Therefore, I feel that if you discover these processes or symptoms on your computer, you should use this guide to remove this adware and other related programs.
