Window User Manager is a potentially unwanted program, or PUP, that is installed by free software you download from the Internet. When installed, this program will configure itself to automatically start when you login to Windows. Once running, Window User Manager will run in the background and without your knowledge constantly connect to various sites on the Internet. This constant downloading of web pages uses up your computer's network bandwidth and CPU processing power, which could cause your computer to act slower.

This program's web site, rangesoft.org, does not list Window User Manager as a product, but instead promotes another product called Online Ad Scanner. Online Ad Scanner states that it is designed to collect traffic statics related to advertising:
Online Ad Scanner is a program designed to automatically search for and collect traffic statistics for various advertising sites in your area. Online Ad Scanner will, within the shortest time period, help you discover new advertising trends, collect and analyze useful information about traffic to advertising sites.
For the advertisers or clients of this company, this may very well be true, but I personally do not see any benefit to the computer that it is installed on.
Window User Manager does not create any Start Menu shortcuts or Desktop icons. Due to this, you would only know it's installed if you found it listed in the Uninstall Programs control panel or see the winrange.exe process in the Windows Task Manager.
When installed, you may notice the following symptoms:
    • Your computer may run slow.
    • Your computer's CPU utilization may rise to as high as 50%
    • You will find a process called WinUse.exe or WinUse_.exe running in Task Manager that use a large amount of CPU power. These processes will have a description called Window User Manager.
    • Applications and Windows may freeze.
    • Your Internet may become slower.

How did the Window User Manager get on my computer?

It is important to note that this program is installed by other programs that did not adequately disclose that other software would be installed along with it. Therefore, it is important that you pay attention to the license agreements and installation screens when installing anything off of the Internet. If an installation screen offers you Custom or Advanced installation options, it is a good idea to select these as they will typically disclose what other 3rd party software will also be installed. Furthermore, If the license agreement or installation screens state that they are going to install a toolbar or other unwanted adware, it is advised that you cancel the install and not use the free software.
In my opinion, Window User Manager uses your computer's resources in order to benefit themselves, without providing any useful benefit to the user. If you find that this program is causing problems on your computer, you can use the removal guide below to remove it for free.
