  • How to uninstall the Research Soft Tech Support Scam

Research Soft is a Trojan from the Rogue.Tech-Support-Scam family that displays a fake Windows update screen that pretends to be an error message from a failed update. This alert is fake and is only being shown to scare you into thinking that there is something wrong with your computer so that you call the listed phone number for a remote tech support company. Unfortunately, if someone calls this number they will be told that there are problems with the computer and the tech support company will try and sell you unnecessary services and software.

The last error message of the fake Windows update alerts is:
    Don't turn off your computer
    We couldn't undo the changes\r\nContact Support 1-800-418-4202

Unfortunately unlike other tech support scams, this screen does not have a password we can provide to close it. Thankfully, it is fairly easy to remove and you can use the removal guide below to remove it without paying any money.
How did the Research Soft Tech Support Scam get on my computer?

It is important to note that this Tech Support Scam Trojan is installed by other programs that did not adequately disclose that other software would be installed along with it. Therefore, it is important that you pay attention to the license agreements and installation screens when installing anything off of the Internet. If an installation screen offers you Custom or Advanced installation options, it is a good idea to select these as they will typically disclose what other 3rd party software will also be installed. Furthermore, If the license agreement or installation screens state that they are going to install a toolbar or other unwanted adware, it is advised that you cancel the install and not use the free software.
As you can see, thisscam was created to scare a victim into calling the listed remote support number so they can be tricked into spending money on unnecessary services or product keys. For no reason should you call this number, and if you have already have and purchased services, I advise you to dispute the charges with your credit card company. To remove this Trojan and any related software for free, please use the removal guide below.
